Proposals for conversion and extension of a 8-storey, 1960’s commercial building in New Barnet Town Centre to provide 34 mixed tenure apartments combined with 320 sqm B1 space. An existing semi-basement car park will also be retained.
Through adaptation of the existing structure, and introduction of green roofs and terraces, the scheme will create a series of high quality outdoor spaces around the building, including a new courtyard at first floor level for private residential amenity and children’s’ play. The building will be re-clad with materials sympathetic to its suburban setting and timber screens and angled windows will enhance the privacy of its neighbours. The addition of an external steel-framed structure to the north elevation will provide generous private space and give the building its distinctive new identity.
The layout of the apartments has been carefully designed to take full advantage of the excellent, high-level views to north and south, whilst ensuring adequate privacy between dwellings and to adjoining properties.
