This re-development of an existing 1960’s block of flats forms part of the Stockwell Park regeneration programme.
The scheme will provide 30 new apartments for outright sale, and the profit generated will be used to cross-subsidise the development of new affordable homes elsewhere on the estate. Planning permission was granted in March 2012, and construction is programmed to start in the Summer.
The project was designed to respect its setting, which adjoins the Stockwell Park Conservation Area, whilst maximising the development potential of the site, and the design process included consultation with local residents and other stakeholders.
The new accommodation is arranged as two distinct elements, one four storey and one three, each with their own entrance and core. All apartments have generous private balconies or terraces and also share use of an communal ‘eco-garden’. Internally, space standards exceed London Housing Design Guidance requirements and all have en-suite showers and utility rooms. An underground car park provides 28 car spaces and secure storage for 48 bikes.
